Netherlands braces for incoming heat wave as temperatures to reach 34°C
A new period of hot weather will bring temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius to central and southern Netherlands this weekend, with highs of up to 34 degrees possible in Limburg, Noord-Brabant, and Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The National Heat Plan is activated Saturday, and a code yellow weather warning will apply in parts of the country because of the heat.
Temperatures are expected to reach 30 to 33 degrees in central and southern areas, while the north will remain cooler at 22 to 24 degrees because of a northeast wind affecting the Wadden Islands and the northern coasts of Friesland and Groningen.
Saturday morning could begin cloudy or foggy in northern areas as cloud patches move inland from the sea, but conditions are expected to clear quickly. In areas with clear skies, people may be able to see luminous night clouds around sunrise.
The warm weather will continue after the weekend, with temperatures of 30 degrees or higher expected in central and southern Netherlands. More clouds and a greater chance of showers are forecast after Wednesday, with possible thunderstorms as cooler and more unsettled weather arrives.
In the meantime, ANWB warned that travelers should expect delays because of roadwork on the A1, A9, A20, and A27 highways. The ANWB also expects congestion at German border crossings on the A1, A7, A12 and A76 due to border checks.
