Supermarket chain Lidl warns customers after data leak
Unknown individuals managed to gain access to customer data held by the supermarket chain Lidl. The German company informed affected customers of this via email this week.
Thus far, the supermarket chain has declined to say how many customers were affected. However, the discount retailer did state that it has notified the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
The stolen data contains information from customers who used the company's webshop. This includes details, such as name, telephone number, email address, date of birth, and customer number.
The supermarket chain said passwords were kept secure. Other critical information also was kept safe, including billing addresses, delivery addresses, bank details, and other payment information, Lidl said.
A spokesperson for the supermarket chain said that there has been no proof of the data being misused.
