Suspect arrested in severe beating of two Utrecht women
The police arrested a man in Venlo, suspected of severely assaulting two women in Utrecht last week. He pulled the women from their bicycles, beat them, and put them in a chokehold.
The police have released no information regarding the suspect’s identity, citing the ongoing investigation. Typically, the police report the suspect’s age and place of residence.
The assaults happened within 30 minutes of each other on Friday. The man attacked the first woman at around 2:00 a.m. on Potgieterstraat, and the second at around 2:30 a.m. on Leidseveer, not far from Utrecht Central Station.
According to the police, the man appears to have chosen the victims at random.
The police put in a lot of effort to track down this man, distributing photos and later videos of him and featuring the case on the television program Opsporing Verzocht. According to the police, this yielded multiple tips.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police have asked witnesses or anyone with information or camera footage that could aid them to come forward.
