Online bank Revolut to start offering mobile phone subscriptions
Online bank Revolut is launching mobile phone subscriptions in the Netherlands, allowing customers to purchase data, calls, and SMS plans directly through its banking app. It is partnering with 1GLOBAL to deliver the mobile service.
Revolut described itself as the first financial services provider in the Netherlands to offer a fully integrated telecommunications service.
The company said it began rolling out the service on Monday, with full availability expected by the summer for all of its more than 1.5 million customers in the Netherlands. Revolut said it sees opportunities in the telecom sector for “innovation and more flexibility and transparency.”
The new offering expands on services already available in the app. Customers previously could install an eSIM and purchase data bundles for use abroad, a feature also offered by competitors such as bunq.
Revolut said that went well, prompting the company to extend its telecom offering to include domestic calling and SMS services within the Netherlands.
