Video: Eight homes evacuated after car fire spreads to residences in Hoogeveen center
Eight homes were evacuated in the center of Hoogeveen early Sunday after a fire that started in a car parked under a carport quickly spread to two dwellings in an apartment complex, authorities said.
The blaze broke out shortly before 1 a.m. in the vehicle on Jonkheer de Jongestraat, a spokesman for Veiligheidsregio Drenthe said. Flames soon engulfed two homes out of a row of eight.
Firefighters from stations across the region were called to battle the flames and stop them from spreading further, RTV Drenthe reported.
The fire is now under control, and no one was injured. Crews were conducting measurements Sunday morning to determine whether the homes are safe for residents to return.
