A 37-year-old man from Purmerend was found dead on Saturday afternoon in a hotel room in Katwoude, Noord-Holland, prompting a police investigation into what authorities describe as suspicious circumstances. No suspect has been arrested, and the cause of death has not been determined.
Police said they responded at about 1:00 p.m. after receiving a report of a deceased person at the Van der Valk Volendam hotel on Wagenweg in Katwoude. Officers located the body of the man in a hotel room around 1:20 p.m.
A police spokesperson said, “From the initial investigation, it appears the man died under suspicious circumstances. Police are currently investigating exactly what happened and how the victim died.” Authorities said they are not disclosing what specifically is considered suspicious.
A spokesperson for the hotel declined to give NH a comment on the case and referred all questions to the police. The hotel also said its operations were not affected by the investigation, stating that “the hotel’s business operations were not disrupted by the police investigation.” Guests were reportedly able to enter and leave the premises as normal, and the restaurant remained open.
