Former prosecution staffer could see 2.5 years in prison for child sex content
The Public Prosecution Service recommended that a former staff member of its own agency face 2.5 years in prison on charges that he possessed and distributed child sex abuse content. The 52-year-old man from Doetinchem is also suspected of drug possession, previously reported as a quantity of GHB.
The former employee worked in the Oost-Nederland district of the Public Prosecution Service (OM), where he was a manager. He was accused of having over 46,000 images and 470 videos containing child sex abuse content.
The man was arrested in 2024 following a tip that he intended to purchase hard drugs for use during sex parties at his home. The suspect also allegedly tried to encourage a friend to commit indecent acts with his foster children, the OM stated.
That friend, along with his partner, have been arrested for indecent acts. The foster children have been removed from the family.
The OM said it is especially concerning that the suspect failed to protect the foster children. Prosecutors added that he largely denied the accusations and shifted blame onto others. The court is expected to rule in two weeks.
The OM previously stated that the man was not a prosecutor, and that he was fired from his job. To ensure impartiality, the case was transferred from the Oost-Nederland district to the District Court of The Hague.
