Suspect in Leiderdorp ex-partner murder filmed attack, sent videos to victim’s family

Marvin B., 38, who is being held on suspicion of killing his 52-year-old ex-partner in Leiderdorp in January, recorded the violence on video. According to prosecutors, he made six clips, some with added commentary, which he allegedly sent to the victim’s daughter and two of her friends.

B. called emergency services himself afterward and was taken into custody. He acknowledged that a dispute took place and that he used violence, but claims he cannot recall the fatal acts.

Prosecutors say the victim died after being struck on the head with a hard object and repeatedly kicked. “She was subjected to an extreme level of violence,” the prosecutor said, adding that the attack in her home on Bolderikkamp in Leiderdorp is believed to have lasted about an hour. When he was arrested in the immediate vicinity of the house, his clothes were found to be stained with blood.

The suspect was already facing charges for issuing death threats against the victim and her children. In one instance, he allegedly said, “I’d gladly serve 30 years if it means taking your life.” The woman reported these threats in August. He had been scheduled to appear in court in February, but was already in detention at that point. The two cases will now be merged.

Public debate has erupted over why no protective measures were put in place, despite Elvira filing a report of specific death threats. The Public Prosecution Service said that, given the information available at the time, there was “no reason” to take extra precautions.

Neighbors told Omroep West that the relationship was turbulent and conflict-prone, with reports of the suspect acting aggressively in past interactions and previous confrontations having occurred.

The suspect is to be observed at the Pieter Baan Center (PBC), the Netherlands’ forensic psychiatric assessment facility, to evaluate his mental condition and determine his level of criminal responsibility and potential risk. The next pre-trial hearing is scheduled for June 15.
