Dense morning fog clears across Northern Netherlands ahead of sunny weekend
Northern Netherlands woke to dense morning fog on Saturday, reducing visibility in parts of Friesland, Groningen, and Drenthe to less than 200 meters. The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) had issued a code yellow warning for the region, which has now been lifted.
According to weeronline, much of the country started the day under low clouds, haze, and localized mist, but gray skies are clearing from the south. Sunshine will spread across most regions this morning, though persistent gray conditions may linger along the northern coast and on the Wadden Islands into the afternoon.
Temperatures across the country will range from 8 to 14 degrees, with the north remaining cooler at 8 to 10 degrees. Winds will be generally weak to moderate from the northeast. Inland areas will see temperatures near the freezing point overnight, with light frost forming at ground level, while coastal regions will remain slightly warmer at 3 to 5 degrees.
Sunday will bring widespread sunny conditions, with temperatures rising to 14 or 15 degrees in the central, eastern, and southern regions, and 12 to 13 degrees in the west and north.
The sun is expected to rise at 6:36 a.m. and set at 6:53 p.m. A weak to moderate east wind will maintain a comfortable spring atmosphere. Some mist may linger in the northern provinces during the early morning.
Monday and Tuesday will remain mild, with periods of sunshine and daytime highs reaching 15 degrees in the southeast. Winds will strengthen from the southwest on Tuesday, particularly along the coast and Wadden region, reaching up to force 6. Rain will move in from the northwest late Tuesday evening.
From Wednesday onward, unsettled conditions will return with frequent showers, occasional hail, and potential thunderstorms. Gusty west to northwest winds will accompany a drop in temperatures, with highs falling below 10 degrees and ranging between 6 and 9 degrees through Friday. Overnight lows inland will hover near freezing, marking a return to below-average temperatures for late March.
