Top two stand firm: PSV and Feyenoord overcome early goals to secure wins
Feyenoord solidified their second place in the Eredivisie with a hard-fought victory over 17th-place Telstar. The Rotterdammers won 2-1 thanks to two goals from Anis Hadj Moussa. This came two days after PSV beat SC Heerenveen, meaning that they remain 14 points clear at the top.
Feyenoord had gone behind in De Kuip in the 14th minute when Jochem Ritmeester van de Kamp gave the relegation battlers the lead. Anthony Correia’s side had defeated PSV earlier this season.
Robin Van Persie’s side equalized in the 30th minute when Hadj Moussa’s shot squirmed under Ronald Koeman Jr and into the goal. This was followed by another goal from the Algerian six minutes later when Jordan Bos played the ball across to him, and he placed it into the far corner.
It was a successful weekend for the Rotterdammers, with their main two rivals for second place, NEC and Ajax, drawing 1-1 with each other in the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Saturday evening.
Feyenoord were not the only side in the top three who had to come back from a goal down to win. Reigning champions PSV went behind at home to SC Heerenveen after a spectacular goal from Lasse Nordas. It was the striker’s fourth goal in his first three starts for the club, making him the first player ever to achieve this feat, according to OPTA.
PSV equalized right on halftime through Ivan Perisic before Myron Boadu scored in his first start for the club in the 48th minute, and Ricardo Pepi celebrated his return from injury with a fantastic strike from distance.
Go Ahead Eagles and NAC Breda made huge strides in their quest to avoid relegation. Go Ahead plunged bottom of the table Heracles into despair with a convincing 4-0 win at the Adelaarshorst, while NAC Breda picked up a significant 1-0 win over fellow relegation candidates FC Volendam.
These results mean that Heracles are now five points behind NAC, who are in the relegation playoff spot. Telstar trails the club from Breda by four points, with FC Volendam two points ahead of NAC in 15th place.
