Wrong VVD candidates appear on election posters in Zundert

Residents in Zundert and nearby villages have been seeing election posters for the VVD party featuring candidates from Velsen, a municipality 145 kilometers away in Noord-Holland, rather than local VVD candidates, officials confirmed to Omroep Brabant.

The posters should have shown VVD Zundert’s top candidate, Rachel Oostvogels, but her image is missing from the displays. The mistake affected multiple locations in Zundert, including the villages of Achtmaal and Wernhout.

“It’s funny but also very disappointing,” Oostvogels told local broadcaster Zuidwest Update. She said she initially thought the report was a joke. “We had heard this had happened in another municipality, but we didn’t think it would happen to us,” she said.

Oostvogels confirmed that VVD Zundert had supplied the correct posters to the municipality and that officials had approved them before distribution. “Something went wrong afterward, and suddenly another municipality appeared on our boards,” she told the newspaper.

She has contacted VVD Velsen to check whether her image appeared there, but Velsen’s posters are correct. “They’re happy with the extra publicity,” Oostvogels added. Municipal authorities in Zundert expected the correct posters to be installed by Saturday or Monday.
