Video: Resident seriously injured in Groningen home invasion; Police make armed arrests

A resident was seriously injured Friday night during a home invasion on the Rode Weeshuisstraat in the center of Groningen, an attack that prompted armed police arrests nearby and a continuing search for a possible third suspect, Hart van Nederland reported.

The robbery was reported to police around 9:15 p.m. Two suspects forced their way into the home, where one of the occupants was badly hurt. One suspect escaped, while the other was overpowered by the residents and later arrested by police.

Through a Burgernet alert, police said they are still looking for a possible third suspect. The man is described as about 25 years old with a light complexion. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a Lacoste cap and a Nike Tech jacket or vest. Police warned the public not to approach him and to call 911 immediately if he is seen.

The victim’s injuries were so severe that a doctor from a mobile medical team treated the resident at the scene. The victim was then taken by ambulance to a hospital for urgent treatment.

Police rushed to the area with multiple units and sealed off a wide perimeter around the street. In the immediate vicinity, officers encountered a white BMW carrying two possible suspects. Those individuals were arrested at gunpoint using the Benaderingstechniek Gevaarlijke Personen, a procedure used when dealing with potentially dangerous suspects. Police have not confirmed whether the two arrests are directly connected to the home invasion.

Footage from the local Hart van Nederland correspondent showed officers with drawn weapons detaining two people on the street near the home shortly after the robbery. Authorities said it is unclear whether those individuals were involved.
