PSV and Ajax earn over €50 million in UEFA Champions League ahead of final group games

Ahead of their final group match, PSV has earned close to 43 million euros in revenue from their UEFA Champions League campaign. Ajax has collected nearly 42 million euros in UEFA bonuses.

Both teams were awarded a starting bonus of 18.6 million euros. Considering their performance over the last ten seasons and TV rights income, PSV receives 18.2 million euros, while Ajax gets 18.7 million euros. PSV made 5.6 million euros from wins against Napoli and Liverpool and draws with Olympiakos and Bayer Leverkusen. Ajax earned 4.2 million euros from victories over Qarabag and Villarreal.

After their home games against Bayern Munich and Olympiakos on Wednesday, PSV and Ajax will have a clearer picture of their total earnings. A victory brings in 2.1 million euros, while a draw adds 700,000 euros.

Teams are also rewarded based on their ranking: 36th place earns 275,000 euros, 35th place double that. Bonuses rise in steps, meaning the group stage winner takes home 36 times 275,000 euros.

PSV and Ajax still have the chance to reach the round of 16, earning 1 million euros. Reaching the quarter-finals brings 11 million euros, with an additional 12.5 million euros for the quarter-finalists. UEFA awards 15 million euros to each semi-finalist. The Champions League winner receives a 25-million-euro bonus, while the runner-up gets 18.5 million euros.

Beyond the previously mentioned bonuses, PSV and Ajax generate income from ticket sales for their four home group-stage matches. PSV anticipates over 8 million euros in gross revenue, while Ajax expects more than 2 million euros extra, partly due to the larger capacity of the Johan Cruijff Arena. Including ticket revenue, both clubs have now earned over 50 million euros in the Champions League.

PSV will advance to the playoff round with a win against Bayern Munich, who have already guaranteed a spot in the top eight, which gives them a bye to the round of 16. It will be much trickier for Ajax, who need to beat Olympiacos and several teams above them to drop points.
