Major works at The Hague Central disrupt train travel until mid-February
Train service around The Hague will be reduced, or completely suspended, between Thursday, January 29, and Sunday, February 15, the NS says. ProRail is completing the last stage of track and platform work at The Hague Central Station. Passengers are advised to travel via alternative stations, with buses provided to help cover the routes.
Over the two-week period, train services on several routes around The Hague will be affected. On the weekend of January 31 and February 1, trains will not operate between The Hague Central and the stations Hollands Spoor, Ypenburg, and Mariahoeve. Travelers to and from Leiden and Rotterdam will need to reroute via Gouda. Additionally, trains between The Hague Central and Delft will be suspended on February 7.
The NS urges passengers to plan their travel in advance while the works are ongoing. Overall, ProRail’s track and platform upgrades at The Hague Central have taken six months to complete.
The construction around The Hague Central forms part of a major revamp of the station area. ProRail is reorganizing the rail yard into three sectors and removing many track switches to enhance the reliability and capacity of services to key destinations, including Leiden, Gouda, Utrecht, and Rotterdam.
The rail lines and infrastructure are being improved to allow more trains to operate at higher speeds with greater reliability, while also preparing the station to handle growing numbers of passengers in the future.
Work on modernizing The Hague's Central Station area began in 2022 and is scheduled to be completed around mid-2026.
