Winter weather forces garbage pickup to stop across Dutch cities

Multiple Dutch cities and municipalities suspended waste collection Wednesday due to winter weather, leaving household, bulky, and street litter uncollected.

In The Hague, all street bins will remain unemptied, while in Amsterdam, some public bins may still be serviced.

City cleaning crews are assisting with ice control, spreading grit at bus stops, hospital sidewalks, and school bike routes. Drivers from Haagse Milieu Service in The Hague are also helping keep roads passable.

Residents are advised to keep household waste at home temporarily. Underground waste containers still have capacity for general waste, paper, glass, PMD, and organic waste. “Many containers in the city were emptied yesterday,” the municipality said. “If a container is full, use another container or keep your waste temporarily at home.”

Recycling centers and waste stations in both cities are closed, and Christmas tree collection has been postponed.

In Noord-Holland, GAD, serving Blaricum, Gooise Meren, Hilversum, Huizen, Laren, and Wijdemeren, announced no household waste will be collected for the rest of the week. Their sorting stations will remain closed at least until Monday.

In Noord-Brabant, multiple household collection routes in Roosendaal, Halderberge, Bergen op Zoom, Rucphen, Zundert, Steenbergen, and Woensdrecht have been canceled through Friday, according to waste company Saver.
