Hundreds protest U.S. attack on Venezuela at American consulate in Amsterdam

A few hundred people gathered Sunday afternoon at Museumplein outside the American consulate to protest the United States’ attack on Venezuela.

Several organizations participated in the protest, including Volkeren voor Vrede, the antifascist group Antifascistische oud-Verzetsstrijders Nederland (AFVN), the socialist youth group ROOD, and the Revolutionair Socialistische Partij.

Most attendees were young and carried red flags and signs displaying antifascist slogans. Messages seen at the demonstration included “Hands off Venezuela,” “Boycott USA,” and “Stop killing for oil,” according to an ANP reporter.

In the protest announcement, organizers called the U.S. actions a “large-scale terror attack.” AFVN spokesperson Sjoerd de Groot told the crowd, “This is an attack on the democracy and sovereignty of Venezuela.” He also challenged claims that President Nicolás Maduro was unlawfully elected.
