Tilburg youths arrested for targeting emergency workers, police with fireworks
Youths in Tilburg targeted emergency responders and a parked police vehicle with fireworks on Wednesday evening, police reported on Friday. Three minors were arrested, and their parents were notified by the police station. The suspects have been referred to HALT, a juvenile justice program, and have been issued a restraining order from the area until after New Year’s Day.
The suspects belonged to a larger crowd responsible for fireworks-related nuisances in the vicinity of Verdiplein. Police noted that the individuals were trespassing in a building entrance. Multiple fines were issued, and the offenders are being processed through the HALT juvenile justice program.
In addition to the events on Wednesday evening, the police have responded to several reports of fireworks-related nuisances across different districts in Tilburg. The police department emphasizes its active enforcement strategy and requests that the public report any suspicions regarding the storage of illegal fireworks.
The Verdiplein is located in the Stokhasselt district of Noord-Tilburg, a neighborhood that typically receives extra attention during New Year’s celebrations. During this period, police and municipal officers step up patrols to prevent incidents like those in previous years.
Through HALT, the youths undergo a brief but intensive program, often including apologizing to the victims, here, the emergency workers, and paying for any damages caused.
