PSV stays six points ahead after 3-0 victory; Feyenoord end losing streak
PSV and Feyenoord were both victorious in the Eredivisie this weekend. Both of the top two teams were facing relegation candidates in FC Volendam and Telstar, respectively. PSV had an easy day at home with a comfortable 3-0 win, while Feyenoord were forced to work harder with a 2-1 win away.
The Eindhovenaren took the lead in the sixth minute when Joey Veerman’s shot found the net against his former team. The midfielder hit an effort under Volendam keeper Kayne van Oevelen.
The second goal came in the 24th minute. A Guus Til cross was almost headed into the net by Ismael Saibari before it bounced up for Ricardo Pepi, who hit an overhead kick in the net.
Guus Til continued his fine goalscoring streak with a goal in the 54th minute. Esmir Bajraktarevic played the pass to Til, who converted for his ninth goal in his last 11 games.
The win means PSV is still six points ahead of Feyenoord. The Rotterdammers got their first win after losing four games in a row in all competitions on Sunday with the win away to bottom of the table Telstar.
Feyenoord took the lead in the 24th minute, and it was another goal for Ayase Ueda that put them ahead. The Japanese striker got his 14th in his 14th league game this season, making him the top scorer in the Eredivisie.
Robin van Persie’s side were struggling to put Telstar away, getting their second goal in the 63rd minute. Anis Hadj Moussa took a few touches before hitting the ball through the defender's legs and into the near corner.
Telstar got a goal back in the closing stages of the game after some poor defending and a bit of good fortune, which resulted in Kay Tejan tapping the ball home.
It was another poor weekend for AZ in the Eredivisie. The Alkmaarders were beaten 1-0 by FC Twente, making it their third loss in a row in the league. Daan Rots scored for Twente, but the most painful moment for AZ will have been the last-second penalty from Troy Parrott, who tried to chip the ball into the net, also known as a Panenka, but sent it over the goal instead.
There was a change in the relegation zone in the Eredivisie. NAC Breda were defeated 1-0 by Excelsior due to a penalty scored by Noah Naujoks, which led to Heracles Almelo climbing above them after they had drawn 1-1 with Fortuna Sittard, which is their fourth game unbeaten in the league.
