Go Ahead Eagles outclassed in 4-0 home defeat to Stuttgart
Go Ahead Eagles were comfortably beaten by German side VFB Stuttgart on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League. Melvin Boel’s side were beaten 4-0 at home in the Adelaarshort through goals from Jamie Leweling (2), Bilal El Khanouss, and Badredine Bouanani.
Melvin Boel’s side were never really a threat to Stuttgart, who are currently fifth in the German Bundesliga. Their victory tonight puts them 12th in the Europa League, with three wins and two losses from their five games thus far. Go Ahead is in 27th place.
The first goal came through an error by the home side. Young midfielder Yassir Salah Rahmouni played a wayward pass in a dangerous position, and it was punished instantly with Maximilian Mittelstadt passing the ball to Leweling, who let it run before receiving it in his path from Deniz Undav. The German international kept the finish simple, placing it into the net past Jari de Busser.
Leweling got his second goal in the 35th minute. Go Ahead found themselves stretched at the back, and this gave Leweling the space to cut inside and shoot towards goal, which he did perfectly, placing the ball into the near corner.
The Germans made it 3-0 in the 59th minute. A cross from Leweling found Undav in the box, and he chested it down for Bilal El Khanouss, who had read the situation well before placing the ball into the far corner.
The final goal came in the final seconds of the game. A chip over the Go Ahead defense came to substitute Badredine Bouanani, and his effort was deflected past De Busser by a Go Ahead defender.
