Police arrest suspect tied to elderly man found dead in care home
A 35-year-old from Oss was arrested in connection with the death of a man at a care home in Deurne. The man, who knew the 79-year-old victim, was arrested on November 15, the Public Prosecution Service stated this week.
The investigation was launched after doubts had arisen regarding the man’s death. It has been confirmed that the victim died of unnatural causes on November 12.
No details were shared regarding how the man came to die, whether this was as a result of violence or negligence. The exact relationship between the two was also not reported, only that the two were “acquaintances.”
The man appeared before and examining magistrate on November 18, and was remanded to jail. He was brought before a district court on Wednesday, where he was ordered to spend an extra 90 days in pre-trial detention.
The investigation is still in its preliminary stage, with the main issue being whether the Public Prosecution Service can collect sufficient evidence to bring charges. It is currently not known whether any witnesses have been interviewed, evidence collected, or what the precise motive could be, as that information has not been made public.
