Two convicted in Christmas Day love triangle murder
The Limburg court has sentenced a man and a woman to 18 and 15 years in prison, respectively, for brutally killing a 41-year-old car dealer in Venlo on Christmas Day 2023.
The suspects were in a relationship, and the man, Florian S., was jealous of how the victim spoke to the woman, Sandra K. At around 2:30 a.m. on 25 December 2023, they lured the victim to their home in Blerck, then beat him to death with a hammer, and hid his body in a storage room.
The man’s body was discovered on Christmas Day. The two suspects, who had fled the scene, were arrested later that same day.
The court considered it proven that Florian S. (40) killed the victim, using what the court described as horrific violence. “The violence against the victim is incomprehensible and can be described as completely senseless, with irreversible consequences. His final moments must have been filled with pain and anguish. The victim didn't stand a chance against the severe violence used against him,” the court said.
While Sandra K. (42) did not use violence, she played a role in luring the victim and did not intervene when S. killed him. According to the court, her role can be considered equivalent to S.’s. “She played a crucial role before, during, and after the act. Her actions are sufficiently serious to constitute complicity.”
“The suspects not only took the victim’s life, his most precious possession, by they also took someone dear from his loved ones. Through their actions, the suspects caused irreparable suffering and grief to the victim’s family,” the court said.
Both suspects were convicted of manslaughter. According to the court, the available evidence does not conclusively prove that they lured the victim with the intention to kill him, rather than just confront him. S. was sentenced to 18 years in prison, K. to 15 years.
