Fatal shooting of young mother in Rotterdam was accidental: report
Sam van Buul, a 24-year-old mother from Oss shot dead in her car in Rotterdam last week, appears to have been killed by accident. One of the other two people in the car with her was playing with a firearm, and the gun accidentally went off, sources told De Gelderlander.
Sam was found critically injured in her car at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 9. The emergency services rushed her to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Sam is survived by her 3-year-old son. Her friends and family described her as a sweet, spontaneous woman who adored her son.
The victim had been on a night out in Rotterdam with her 28-year-old boyfriend, Rick from Nijmegen, and their 20-year-old friend, Mohamed. While driving across Kralingseplein, one of them stuck the firearm out the window and shot into the air for fun, the sources said.
The police are still investigating exactly what happened. So far, it is assumed that Rick was the one playing with the gun and shot Sam by accident, according to the newspaper.
The police arrested Rick at the scene and Mohamed, also from Nijmegen, a few days later. Both are still in custody.
