Trains to and from Rotterdam, The Hague suspended this weekend for major rail upgrades

Train service to and from Rotterdam Centraal will be fully suspended this weekend, November 8 and 9, as ProRail replaces the 25-year-old signaling and control system at the station. Most platforms at Den Haag Centraal will also be closed for related track upgrades, halting all trains.

ProRail said the shutdown is unavoidable to ensure safety. “This work requires several weekends to be carried out safely,” a spokesperson said. “Normally these projects do not overlap, but this time they do.”

No trains will run to, from, or through Rotterdam Centraal, and high-speed line (HSL) service will be suspended. Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) will provide replacement buses and alternative routes, including metro connections through Schiedam Centrum, Delft Campus, and Capelsebrug.

Passengers with valid NS tickets may use metro services between Rotterdam Centraal, Schiedam Centrum, Slinge, Beurs, Rotterdam Blaak, Capelsebrug, and Rotterdam-Alexander. Trains are expected to resume early Monday morning.
