Fugitives sought in murder case of man found in cornfield near Belgian border
Police have released photos of two fugitives in connection with the violent death of 41-year-old Sherwin Peterhof from Suriname. The suspects are identified as 57-year-old Denise Soekra from Paramaribo and 42-year-old Claimond Maes from Rotterdam. Police say there are “strong indications” that the pair is currently in Suriname. The Public Prosecution Service has offered a total reward of 15,000 euros for information leading to their arrest.
Peterhof’s body was found on Friday, August 15, in a cornfield in Hazeldonk, near the Belgian border. Before his death, he had reportedly lived in Amsterdam and Almere.
Sherwin’s body was found when an observant farmer in Hoogstraten, just under seven kilometers from Hazeldonk in Noord-Brabant, noticed something suspicious at the edge of a cornfield. While digging, he uncovered the lifeless body about a meter underground, according to earlier reporting by RTL.
Five people have been arrested so far in connection with the case, including a 40-year-old woman from Amsterdam, a 31-year-old man from Rotterdam, a 43-year-old man with no fixed address, and two 40-year-old men from Rotterdam.
Police are seeking additional information and have asked anyone with knowledge about the case to come forward. Tips can be submitted via the free tip line at 0800-6070.
