Dutch biotech company to cut 20% of non-medical jobs, primarily in Leiden

Dutch biotech company Pharming announced plans to reduce its workforce by 20 percent, primarily in non-commercial and non-medical roles, with the majority of the cuts affecting its headquarters in Leiden.

The exact number of employees impacted has not been disclosed. According to Pharming’s 2024 annual report, the company employs 426 people across nine countries.

The company also stated that it has recently consulted its works council regarding the planned measures. The job cuts are part of a broader restructuring aimed at accelerating the company’s growth.

Pharming expects to save 15 percent of its annual costs, roughly 11.5 million euros. The company anticipates one-time restructuring costs of approximately 6.5 million euros in the current quarter due to the layoffs.
