October election ballots finalized, cleared for printing

The ballots for the October 29 Tweede Kamer elections can now be printed, following the Council of State's rejection on Monday of the last three appeals against candidate lists. A total of 27 parties are participating, including 18 that are running in every electoral district, with a total of 1,166 candidates.

The Council of State addressed the final appeals on Monday. Party NL PLAN, which was eligible in nine electoral districts, sought inclusion in Limburg, claiming municipalities had hindered the submission of support statements. The Council dismissed the objection as unfounded.

ORDA, led by wax holder thrower Erwin Lensink, was barred from all districts due to insufficient support statements and failure to pay the required 11,250 euro deposit. The party claimed that some lists were not reviewed, but the council stated that they had never been submitted.

The Partij voor de Rechtsstaat is allowed to run in two districts but was denied in nine others for failing to demonstrate adequate support. The Council also dismissed a citizen’s appeal to evaluate all parties on “moral grounds” and to bar current Tweede Kamer members.
