Dutch women’s and men’s rowing teams take gold at Shanghai World Championships

The Netherlands claimed double gold in rowing at the World Championships on Saturday, with both the women’s and men’s eights dominating their finals in Shanghai. According to RTL, both crews took an early lead and maintained it to win decisively.

In the women’s eight, Romania, the reigning Olympic champion, finished second, while Great Britain took third. On the men’s side, the Netherlands was joined on the podium by Great Britain and the United States.

This championship marked the first time in three years that the Dutch women’s eight competed. The team included Tinka Offereins, Ymkje Clevering, Ilse Kolkman, Hermijntje Drenth, Vera Sneijders, Lisanne van der Lelij, Nika Vos, Linn van Aanholt, and coxswain Dieuwke Fetter.

The Dutch men’s eight featured Eli Brouwer, Jorn Salverda, Sander de Graaf, Finn Florijn, Pieter van Veen, Jan van der Bij, Mick Makker, Wibout Rustenburg, and coxswain Jonna de Vries. The men had won silver at last year’s Olympics in Paris, finishing behind the British crew.

Earlier this week, the Netherlands also secured gold in other events. Roos de Jong and Benthe Boonstra won the women’s double sculls, while Tessa Dullemans, Willemijn Mulder, Margot Leeuwenburgh, and Lisa Bruijnincx captured gold in the women’s quadruple sculls. The final day of the championships is scheduled for Sunday.
