Feyenoord keep top spot with win over Heerenveen; Godts leads Ajax past PEC

Feyenoord kept the top spot of the Eredivisie by beating SC Heerenveen on Saturday. Anis Hadj-Moussa scored the Rotterdammers’ solitary goal before being sent off. Ajax are a point behind Robin van Persie’s side, and PSV, after beating PEC Zwolle 3-1.

It was the Hadj-Moussa show in Rotterdam. The Algerian winger showed his skill by keeping the ball in the air several times by the wing before putting in an inch-perfect cross, which was knocked into the goal by Leo Sauer, but the goal was disallowed.

This came before he broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute. A clever back heel from right back Givairo Read resulted in the chance, which Hadj-Moussa dispatched into the far corner.

Despite the impressive play, Hadj-Moussa made his team’s task a lot more difficult in the 57th minute when he was sent off for kicking out at his opponent. Heerenveen were also reduced to 10 men in the 72nd minute when Hristiyan Petrov was sent off.

Feyenoord are top of the Eredivisie on goal difference. They have won all four of their league games this season, and have a game in hand on PSV and Ajax.

Ajax kept within touching distance of the top spot on Saturday with a 3-1 win at home to PEC Zwolle. Young Belgian winger Mika Godts was the main man for the Amsterdammers, scoring two goals in the win. The other Ajax goal was scored by Davy Klaassen, with Kai de Rooij scoring for PEC in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Ajax will play its first game in the UEFA Champions League this week, facing Internazionale in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

At the other end of the table, it is looking like it will be a very long season for Heracles Almelo. Bas Sibum’s side were defeated 1-2 by AZ Alkmaar on Sunday, making them the worst ever Eredivisie teams after the first five games of a season. Heracles have lost all five of their games, scoring just twice and conceding 16 goals in the process.

Damon Mirani got their second goal of the season on Sunday after Alexandre Penetra had put AZ ahead. In the end, it was Mexx Meerdink who got the winning goal for Maarten Martens’ side, who are currently in fourth place.

Sparta Rotterdam, meanwhile, has made its best-ever start to an Eredivisie season after five games. Sparta beat Excelsior away in the Rotterdam derby thanks to an injury-time goal from Ayoub Oufkir on Sunday. They are currently eighth.
