Police seek suspect in random assault on young woman in Breda
A young woman was suddenly attacked in the early hours of Monday on the streets of Breda, police have reported. Police are still searching for the suspect of the assault, as he had fled from the incident when the officers arrived at the location.
The woman was walking over the Nijverheidssingel at 4 a.m. when she was attacked by the man. Police would not share any details about what happened or the victim’s injuries. “We are cautious in this regard to protect the victim,” a spokesperson said to Omroep Brabant.
The suspect is said to be around 1.70 m tall, wearing a gray or brown cap, a gray polo shirt, and jeans. He has a light complexion, a short beard, and light-colored eyes.
After the incident, the police immediately launched an investigation. Officers hope to gain more clarity on the suspect’s identity and escape route through security footage or witness accounts. The police are urgently asking anyone who saw anything suspicious or has surveillance footage from the area around that time to come forward.
Many cases of violence against women have been reported in the Netherlands over the last few months. Most municipalities have been dealing with an increase in reports of women feeling unsafe after the murder of 17-year-old Lisa from Abcoude in August.
The gruesome murder led to a campaign called "We claim the night," which advocates for more safety on the streets for women.
