Mortgage applications up 8% in August
People applied for more mortgages in August, reported the Mortgage Data Network (HDN). Applications for home renovations, in particular, have increased.
Last month, 36,075 mortgages were applied for, 8 percent more than in August 2024. The number of applications for increasing or refinancing an existing mortgage increased, in particular, according to HDN.
The majority of applications, approximately 60 percent, were for home purchases. The average amount borrowed for this purpose was €367,300. That is 3 percent more than a year earlier.
The average value of a home was €506,500, an increase of 4 percent. This is slightly lower than the record high in July, when the average market value was €517,871.
HDN offers a platform to facilitate the provision of credit. Almost all mortgage applications in the Netherlands are processed through its network, according to HDN.
