Father of Dutch teens found dead in Istanbul hotel no longer in critical condition
The father of two Dutch teenagers who were found dead in a hotel room in Istanbul is no longer in life-threatening condition, according to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The 57-year-old man remains in the hospital, where he is continuing to receive treatment. The family is reportedly from a village in Noord-Holland.
Family members have been able to speak with him, a ministry spokesperson told news agency ANP. The official declined to provide further details about his condition, citing privacy concerns.
The father was discovered weak and in shock on Friday when hotel staff entered the family’s room after the guests had not checked out by midday. His 15- and 17-year-old sons were found dead at the scene. Emergency responders were unable to revive them.
According to Turkish media outlet Hürriyet, the father told medical staff that the family had eaten at a restaurant on Taksim Square the previous evening and later became ill in their hotel room. Local authorities are still investigating the cause of death.
