Temps up to 34°C today; Slightly cooler weather from tomorrow

The Nehterlands is in for another scorcher today, with maximums climbing to between 27 and 34 degrees. If thermometers top 30 in De Bilt, the official heatwave will be a fact. Temperatures will still reach 30 degrees in some places tomorrow, but maximums will be lower over the weekend, according to Weeronline’s forecast.

Thursday started cloudy with some showers in the western half of the country. But the clouds will give way to sunshine from the west, and the sun will shine brightly across much of the country by the afternoon. With little wind, maximum temperatures will reach 30 to 34 degrees inland. A moderate westerly wind will blow along the beaches, where maximums will climb to 27 degrees.

Friday will see plenty of sunshine, with some cirrus clouds developing in a few regions during the afternoon. Temperatures will rise to 30 degrees Celsius in the southeast, while the coast will be cooler at 24 to 27 degrees. During the afternoon, the wind will shift from northwest to north, bringing cooler air into the country. Clouds will start to form in the northern coastal area and spread across the country overnight to Saturday.

Saturday will start gray with a few drops of rain in some places. The sun will show its face more often during the afternoon, and late afternoon will be downright sunny in most places. Maximums will range between 22 and 27 degrees, noticeably cooler than the preceding days, with a moderate northerly wind. Sunday will be a mix of sunshine and clouds with maximums ranging between 20 degrees in the north and 25 degrees in the southeast.

“After the weekend, the wind will shift to a more northeasterly direction. This could cause temperatures to rise to an average of 25 degrees Celsius on Monday and 27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday,” Weeronline said.

After that, the forecast is still uncertain. “We will likely return to a fairly typical Dutch summer weather pattern with normal temperatures and an increasing chance of showers,” Weeronline said. According to the KNMI, average maximums for mid- to late-August are around 21 to 22 degrees Celsius.
