Truck crashes through central barrier on A2 highway, hitting oncoming traffic; 2 hurt
The A2 highway between Valkenswaard and Maarheze was closed all night after a serious accident involving a truck and multiple passenger vehicles on Tuesday evening. The truck crashed through the central barrier and into oncoming traffic, hitting multiple vehicles. Two people were injured.
The two injured people were taken to the hospital, said the office for the local emergency services, Veiligheidsregio Brabant-Zuidoost. A spokesperson for the Veiligheidsregio told Omroep Brabant that one of the two injured was extricated from a passenger car by the fire brigade. An air ambulance also responded to the scene.
The accident caused a great deal of damage. Rijkswaterstaat closed the entire highway between Valkenswaard and Maarheeze towards Maastricht. That’s the side of the highway the truck crashed onto. In the opposite direction, the direction the truck was initially traveling, one lane was closed.
It took Rijkswaterstaat workers all night to clean up the scene of the accident. The highway reopened early Wednesday morning.
The cause of the accident is not yet known. The police are investigating.
