Fire destroys 40 cars at Wernhout auto salvage yard, warehouse spared
Around 10 p.m. Saturday, a large fire broke out behind an auto salvage yard in Wernhout, destroying approximately 40 cars, according to Veiligheidsregio Midden- en West-Brabant, NU.nl reports.
The blaze produced heavy smoke and required multiple firefighting units, including an aerial platform and additional water transport.
Firefighters quickly isolated the burning vehicles on the yard’s outdoor lot, successfully preventing the flames from spreading to the salvage yard’s warehouse. By 11 p.m., the fire was reportedly under control, and smoke levels had significantly decreased.
Following containment, crews extinguished the vehicles individually to fully suppress the fire. No injuries or damage to the warehouse were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed.
