Driver succumbs to injuries after crashing into Noord-Brabant home
The 21-year-old man who crashed his car into a home on Gemertseweg in Beek en Donk, Noord-Brabant, early Sunday morning has died of his injuries, police confirmed to Omroep Brabant.
The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on July 14. The driver’s black Volkswagen slammed into the front of the house, partially entering the building and causing extensive structural damage. Bricks were scattered across the hood and roof of the car. A trauma team responded by helicopter, and the trauma doctor stabilized the unconscious driver before he was transported to the hospital by ambulance. He never regained consciousness.
A canister of laughing gas was found in the vehicle. Police drew blood from the driver for toxicology testing but have not said whether he was under the influence, citing the victim’s privacy.
The residents of the home were unharmed but were not allowed to reenter due to a risk of collapse. A neighbor said the family had just finished renovating the house when the crash occurred.
Gemertseweg has been the site of serious accidents before. In 2023, a bus driver lost control and hit another house on the same road after suffering a medical emergency. The 79-year-old driver from Someren died at the scene. All 25 wedding guests on board escaped injury.
