Power outage shuts IKEA Delft, causes traffic lights to fail

The IKEA store in Delft closed Saturday morning due to a power outage affecting the area, according to a spokesperson for the Swedish furniture retailer. Customers gathered outside the store while technicians worked to restore electricity, Omroep West reports.

The outage began around 9:20 a.m., just as the IKEA restaurant had opened, although the main store remained closed. Early restaurant visitors were forced to leave. For safety reasons, the store will reportedly remain closed until power is fully restored.

The power disruption also caused traffic lights in the area to fail, complicating local traffic conditions. Stedin expects the outage to be resolved between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m.

Net operator Stedin reported that more than 80 customers in Delft, including the IKEA location, experienced the blackout. The cause of the outage is currently unknown.
