Body found in burnt out car on the Dutch-German border near Landgraaf

The body of an as-yet-unidentified person was found in a burned-out car just across the German border on Tuesday, the Dutch police reported on Thursday. The German authorities found the vehicle in Scherpenseel, a few meters from the border with Landgraaf.

Due to the proximity to the Netherlands, the Limburg police are helping their German counterparts with the investigation. The victim’s identity and cause of death are still unknown, the police said on Thursday.

The German newspaper Aachener Zeitung reported that the victim is a man and that his body was found in the trunk of the car.

The Limburg police said they are investigating a connection to a current missing persons case, but provided no further details.
