Amsterdam Uber and Bolt drivers to strike during Canal Pride
People attending the Canal Parade - Amsterdam Pride’s biggest event - on Saturday may have some trouble getting home. Uber and Bolt drivers in the Dutch capital will be striking on Saturday night, Taxi Protest Amsterdam (TPA) announced.
The strike will start at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and end at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, AT5 reported. A thousand Uber and Lift drivers have joined the group. They are protesting for better pay for Bolt and Uber drivers and less competition
“The strike on August 2 is intended to show solidarity among taxi drivers working for platform companies,” TPA said. “We are calling drivers to not drive for Uber or Bolt and to leave the city.” TTO drivers - taxi drivers who are not working for a platform - will still work, so that Pride celebrators still have some taxi options for getting home safely.
The TPA wants ride-sharing platforms to increase fares, ban new drivers, and implement a professional competence requirement for taxi drivers.
