Gouda femicide victim was maybe lured to her murder; Police investigating 2nd suspect

Those in the Netherlands in life threatening danger should immediately dial 112 for emergencies, and anyone suffering from depression or contemplating suicide can call 113 Zelfmoordpreventie at any time by dialing either 113 or 0800-0113, or by visiting 113.nl.

Joeweela, the 39-year-old woman killed by her ex Driekus K. (53) on Bosweg in Gouda last week, may have been lured to her murder, sources told the Telegraaf. According to these sources, the police are investigating whether a second suspect sent Joeweela to Bosweg under false pretenses.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) would not confirm this to the Telegraaf, but did say that the investigation into Joeweela’s murder was ongoing even though the main suspect is dead. K. committed suicide in the dunes near Scheveningen some time after killing Joeweela in front of their two children.

The woman and two children were staying in a women’s shelter in Gouda, in hiding from K. In June, she filed charges of assault against K.. He was arrested for carrying a firearm, but was released two weeks later.

According to the Telegraaf’s sources, Joeweela had an appointment to meet with a woman on the day K. murdered her. She went to Bosweg with her son and daughter and found K. waiting there, not the woman. He shot Joeweela multiple times as their two young children watched. Joeweela died at the scene.

Joeweela’s family told the newspaper that she had received a call from a woman who managed to gain her trust. The woman said she could help arrange a meeting with Joeweela’s teenage daughter from a previous relationship. “Joeweela bought a present for her daughter and arranged a meeting with the woman. Ultimately, she was lured to a location in Gouda using a pretext,” her uncle, Heino de Gelder, told the Telegraaf.

Joeweela’s murder bears many parallels to an earlier case against K. In 2009, the court sentenced him to 13 years in prison for attempting to murder another ex. He shot her in front of their son.

Joeweela will be commemorated on Friday. According to the Telegraaf, the woman will be buried in Helmond, next to her mother, who was also killed by a partner 30 years ago.
