Schiphol train traffic again disrupted; Also rail issues in other parts of Randstad

The power outage that severely disrupted train traffic to and from Schiphol Airport on Tuesday has been resolved, but Wednesday saw new issues with trains to the airport. Due to a signal failure, far fewer trains are running between Schiphol and Amsterdam-Zuid. Defective overhead lines are also causing problems on the routes between Utrecht and The Hague and between Utrecht and Rotterdam.

NS hopes to have the Schiphol signal failure resolved by 9:15 a.m. Until then, “far fewer trains” will run between the airport and Amsterdam-Zuid. An NS spokesperson told ANP that travellers should use a different Amsterdam station to reach the airport.

Tuesday’s issues were caused by a fire in the cables along the track. The police suspect arson and are investigating whether it was sabotage linked to the NATO summit that started in The Hague on the same day.

Broken overhead lines are also disrupting traint traffic on the routes between Utrecht and The Hague and Utrecht and Rotterdam on Wednesday morning. Here, too, far fewer trains are running. NS hopes this issue will be resolved by 11:15 a.m.

And a switch failure has fewer sprinters running between The Hague and Rotterdam until at least 1:45 p.m. on Thursday. Travelers can expect this to add 15 minutes of travel time to their trips, NS said.
