Donald Trump to stay in the Royal Palace after invite from King Willem-Alexander
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, will be staying in the Paleis Ten Bosch in The Hague on Tuesday evening. King Willem-Alexander offered him an overnight stay at the palace, the Government Information Service (RVD) has confirmed a report from RTL Nieuws. The White House had reported earlier that Trump would be having breakfast with the King on Wednesday.
Trump will arrive in the Netherlands at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for the NATO Summit, which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday in The Hague. Shortly after his arrival, at 7:45 p.m., a meeting with the royal couple is planned, the official schedule shows. The U.S. president has a photo opportunity and breakfast with the royal couple scheduled for Wednesday morning.
This means that Trump will not be staying at the Huis ter Duin in Noordwijk, which was the initial plan. Various security measures were taken in anticipation of this, and U.S. flags are hanging in front of the hotel on Tuesday. A spokesperson for Huis ter Duin did not wish to respond to the news. “We will not be making any statements on which guests are or are not staying with us.”
The municipality of Noordwijk also refused to comment on the development. “For safety reasons, we will be making no comments regarding delegates staying here,” a spokesperson said.
The security measures around the hotel will remain in effect despite the news regarding Trump's stay in The Hague, the municipal spokesperson said. “Noordwijk will still be receiving a NATO delegation.”
Part of the American delegation is presumably staying here. Officers are stationed at the entrances of the fenced-off area at the location. On the beach, police jet skis can be seen being moved.
