Roadworks on Amsterdam A10 wraps up day early; Sound barrier catches fire

Part of the roadworks on the A10 in Amsterdam wrapped up a day earlier than planned, the Rijkswaterstaat announced. Motorists can use the connecting road from the A10 South to the A10 West again from Monday at 10:00 a.m. Unrelated, part of the sound barrier wall on the A10 caught fire, giving a group of homeless people sheltering nearby a massive fright.

The fire broke out in the sound barrier wall at kilometer marker 27.8, on a different part of the A10 than was undergoing renovations. Several unhoused people were sleeping nearby. They received quite a fright, but were unharmed, the fire brigade told Hart van Nederland.

The flames were meters high and clearly visible from the road. Firefighters extinguished the fire, the cause of which is unknown. The road was closed to traffic for some time.

Elsewhere on the A10, the Rijkswaterstaat finished roadworks early and reopened that part of the ring road earlier than planned. The connecting road from the A10 South to the A10 West closed on Friday for work on the Zuidasdok project and was due to remain closed until 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Instead, it reopened at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.

“That is earlier than planned because the work proceeded faster due to the deployment of extra personnel and equipment,” the Rijkswaterstaat reported.
