Third-country nationals have to leave the Netherlands by October

Third-country nationals from Ukraine must leave the Netherlands by early October, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) said on Friday. They will no longer qualify for temporary protection from September 4 and will have four weeks to leave the country, the IND said.

According to the IND, the decision affects about 1,000 people. They will receive a letter informing them next week.

In April, the Council of State ruled that the Netherlands could stop sheltering third-country nationals - people who were in Ukraine on a temporary residency permit when the war broke out, like students or migrant workers. The European Court also advised that their reception could be stopped while the protection of Ukrainians and others who lived permanently in Ukraine could continue.

“The termination of the measure means that these people must leave the Netherlands within four weeks from September 4,” the IND said. “Unless they have a residency permit or an ongoing asylum procedure, or have submitted an application for a regular residency permit before September 4.” People awaiting ongoing objection procedures against their deportation can also stay until their case is done.
