White smoke will also emanate from Oudenbosch Basilica when new pope is elected

White smoke will appear from the chimney of the Oudenbosch Basilica when a successor to the late Pope Francis is chosen in Vatican City, a chairman of a church foundation said. It will be the second time that the basilica has done this.

The church in Noord-Brabant, with the full name of The Basilica of the Holy Agatha and Barbara, has a similar look to St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. The nave of the Dutch church is a scaled copy to the basilica linked to the Sistine Chapel.

It is in the famed chapel where 133 cardinals have gathered on Wednesday to begin the process of deliberating and voting for a new leader for the Catholic church. Once the new pope is selected, white smoke will appear from the chapel's chimney.

If a new voting round is needed, this is communicated to the outside world with black smoke from the Vatican City landmark. This will not be the case with the basilica in Oudenbosch.

The Basilica of the Holy Agatha and Barbara chimney will only be used when there is a new pope, so black smoke will not be seen coming from the chimney. The chair of the foundation said he is closely following the conclave.

He expects the delay between the white smoke in Rome and Oudenbosch to be around five or six minutes.
