Chilly, but sunny weather expected for Liberation Day festivals
People planning to attend a Liberation Day festival in the Netherlands today would do well to remember a jacket, as well as sunscreen. The day will be chilly, with a moderate to strong northeasterly wind, but there is plenty of room for sunshine, according to Weeronline.
Monday started cold, with early morning temperatures just above freezing in some places. Only by around 10:00 a.m. will thermometers hit double digits in most places. “Some cloud will move over the country from the northeast, and locally a single shower is possible, but it will not amount to much,” the weather service said.
By the time the Liberation Day festivals start in the afternoon, the weather won’t look “that bad at all.” It will be sunny and dry in the vast majority of places, with a small chance of rain in the extreme south and southeast. Temperatures will range between 10 degrees on the Wadden Islands and around 15 degrees inland, though a moderate to fairly strong northeasterly wind will make it feel colder
“With a bit of sun, it is still festival weather,” Weeronline said, but added that a jacket will come in handy. “Especially in the shade or in the wind, it can feel quite chilly.”
Festival attendees should also remember sunscreen, despite the chilly spring weather. “It is often thought that the sun's strength is linked to the temperature, but that is not the case at all. The sun will reach sun strength 4 or 5 again on May 5, which means that unprotected skin can burn within 20 to 40 minutes.”
