Eight mobile deposit machines deployed for collecting cans, bottles on King’s Day
Statiegeld Nederland will place eight mobile bulk deposit machines for people to deposit their empty cans or plastic bottles during the King’s Day weekend. The machines will be placed in crowded areas of Eindhoven, Utrecht, and Amsterdam.
The placement of the machines follows a “successful trial” during carnival when seven of these types of machines were placed in several areas in the south of the country. The trial showed that "Partygoers were able to find the mobile bulk machines easily," according to Statiegeld Nederland.
A bulk deposit machine can process more than a hundred cans or plastic bottles in one attempt. When depositing a bottle or can, you can choose to receive the fee for it via a Tikkie or donate the money to a local charity.
“By deploying bulk mobile deposit machines during King’s Day weekend, we are providing a practical solution for busy areas where a lot of plastic packages or cans are used. We are doing this in cooperation with municipalities and local partners. We are contributing to a cleaner city and are helping to ease the burden on the supermarkets at the same time,” said Jeroen Hillen, a director for Statiegeld Nederland.
In Amsterdam, the machines will be at the NDSM Werf, Museumplein, Droogbak, Zieseniskade, and the Waterlooplein. In Utrecht, the machines can be found on the Janskerkhof and the Mariaplaats and they will be on Stationsplein in Eindhoven.
The machines will be at the locations for the whole weekend, from Friday up to and including Sunday.
