Fire near Schiphol forces landing changes, now extinguished

A fire in a warehouse in Rozenburg near Schiphol forced incoming flights to divert to a different runway on Saturday night to avoid thick smoke, De Telegraaf reported. The fire was extinguished later that evening, and normal airport operations resumed, authorities confirmed.

The fire broke out in a warehouse on Aalsmeerderweg. At around 9 p.m., the decision was made to divert flights from the Kaagbaan to the Aalsmeerbaan to prevent planes from flying through the smoke, according to the Veiligheidsregio Kennemerland.

By 11 p.m., the fire was reportedly under control, and firefighters remained on-site to conduct damping-down operations. A spokesperson for Schiphol confirmed that air traffic could return to planned routes shortly afterward. The incident and the temporary runway change had no impact on the airport’s capacity, and flight schedules remained unchanged throughout the evening.

Emergency responders checked one person who had inhaled a significant amount of smoke, but no other injuries were reported. The fire department advised local residents to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area.
