Video: Drug lab found in Heemstede apartment building where fire damaged some 20 homes
The police have found a drug lab in one of the apartments of a housing complex in Heemstede where a fire damaged multiple homes on Sunday. It is not yet clear whether the drug lab caused the fire.
The fire broke out in the apartment complex on Burgemeester van Lennepweg early on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters managed to extinguish it within 30 minutes, but not before it damaged 20 homes to such an extent that their residents couldn’t go back to them on Sunday.
Emergency services evacuated 50 people, including 15 residents of a residential care center located next to the burning building. Two people had to go to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
A police spokesperson could not yet tell RTL Nieuws what type of drugs were produced in the lab they found or whether it had anything to do with the fire.
Shortly after the blaze, the police asked the public on Burgernet to look out for two men who had been seen at the fire. The police said they were concerned about the men’s health because they may have inhaled smoke. As far as is known, the two have not been found.
A police spokesperson told NOS that the two are not considered suspects at this time, but investigators would like to speak to them.
