Warmest March 7 ever measured with temperatures rising to 17.8 degrees in De Bilt
The temperature at the weather measuring station De Bilt rose to 17.8 degrees Celsius this afternoon, making it the warmest March 7 ever measured. The old record was 17.7 degrees Celsius, which happened in 1991, Weeronline reported on Friday.
The national record was also broken at 2:40 p.m. Wijk aan Zee saw temperatures rise to 19 degrees Celsius, and Arcen, Limburg had temperatures of up to 18.9 degrees Celsius. The old record for March 7 came at the now-dissolved weather station in Breda in 1906. Temperatures rose to 18.8 degrees Celsius on that date.
No new record was broken on Thursday, but the old record from 1989 was equaled. It was 17.8 degrees Celsius at De Bilt at one point.
Another record is expected to be broken on Saturday. The record of March 8 is currently at 16 degrees Celsius and was measured in 2014. The national record is 18.9 degrees Celsius, which was also measured in 2014. Temperatures are expected to rise to a possible 19 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
This is the second warm weather record to be broken this year. The first record was broken on February 21. Eight records related to hot or warm weather were broken in 2024. Records related to warm or hot weather have occured more often during this century. There are currently 187 days in the calendar year in which the highest temperature measured at De Bilt came in the last 24 years.
