Dutch hotels, campsites, chalets welcomed over 50 million guests last year

The number of guests in hotels, campsites, and vacation homes in the Netherlands rose to record levels last year. According to Statistics Netherlands, 51.7 million guests visited Dutch vacation spots. This is almost five percent more than in 2023. It is the first time in ten years since Statistics Netherlands has been tracking these numbers that more than 50 million guests visited a lodging accommodation in the country.

There was not only an increase in tourists from abroad visiting the country, more Dutch residents also visited the vacation facilities. Statistics Netherlands counted 21.3 million foreign guests, which is an increase of five percent. The number of domestic visitors grew by four percent to 30.3 million.

Hotels received the most guests in 2024. Over 33 million people stayed in a hotel, which is four percent more than the previous year. There was also an increase in guests staying in vacation homes. Campsites and group accommodations received more or less the same number of people as a year earlier.

Statistics Netherlands also looked at the difference in the tourism numbers per province. A noteworthy fact was that Groningen saw the most significant increase in tourists. The province had 900,000 guests stay for at least a night, which marks a growth of 11 percent.

Most guests visited Noord-Holland, especially Amsterdam. Over 16 million people visited the province. Overijssel was the only province with a drop in the number of guests. The decrease amounted to three percent.
